EC ENGINEERING
The department of Elecronics & Communication Engineering was started
in the year 2001 with an intake of 60 students. The intake was
increased to 120 in 2006. A Separate block is provided to develop the
department as a center of excellence. The department has established
five laboratories namely Communications laboratory, IC applications
laboratory, Processors laboratory, Simulations laboratory and Electronic
Devices & circuits laboratory, which are fully equipped with test
and measuring equipment and trainer kits specially designed for lab work
and a separate library for the students of the department.
Post graduate course in VLSI System Design was
sanctioned during the academic year 2008-09 with an intake of 18 seats.
Diploma course was sanctioned in the academic year 2009-10 with an
intake of 60 seats.
The department is headed by Prof.P.Lakshmi Sarojini,
an Ex-Scientist from DRDO having vast industrial R&D experience
with complementary teaching experience. The department has dedicated and
experienced faculty (33 teaching staff and 8 non-teaching staff).
Well-furnished staff rooms are provided in sufficient number.
The department is mainly providing in-house guidance for projects for
graduate and post graduate students. The department is contributing
towards research by encouraging students to work in the field of
Nanotechnology. During the last academic year, 40 students presented
various paper and poster presentations in various colleges.
Our department organized an international conference ICMOT-2010 in
collaboration with IACQER. 150 students registered as IACQER members. In
this conference, few of the faculty members and students participated
in paper and poster presentations. The department is very proud to have
students who contributed the “Best paper” in ICMOT-2010.
Most of the faculty members are life members of IETE. Student forum
of IETE (SFI) was formed and is active since four years. The department
students have formed an association (AECE) and it conducts various
technical and cultural activities during the entire academic year and
the winners are awarded on AECE day as a part of AECE celebration.
The department has initiated Student Academic Development Program (SADP)
to improve the academic performance of weak students. With the help of
mentors chosen from the meritorious students, the faculty concentrates
on improving the academic performance of weak students.
The Alumni of all the past four years are well-placed in reputed
organizations like IBM, INFOSYS, TCS, CSC, SATYAM, TECH-MAHINDRA, WIPRO,
etc. Some of them are pursuing M.Tech, MBA and MS courses in India and
abroad. Some of the present final year students are engrossed in
research in the field of Nanotechnology.
The ECE department has separate block with five laboratories with
state-of-art equipment. The total amount spent to establish all the
laboratories is about 70 Lakhs. The total area of the department is 2000
sq.mtrs. The department has six classrooms equipped with 3 LCD
projectors, few DVD writers, 1 scanner, 3 printers, 80 computers with
LAN connection. The entire department is having net connectivity through
Wi-Fi. As a step towards advanced teaching methodology, the department
is equipped with 6 laptops. The classrooms are well ventilated and
furnished with black board, white screen, etc.
During the last 9 years, the department has developed the complete
infrastructure required for conducting regular theory classes and
laboratories for practical work. The department has spent a substantial
amount for procuring useful software packages such as Mentor graphics
backend tool for VLSI design, XILINX-tool for Verilog and VHDL
programming with CPLD and FPGA evaluation hardware, MATLAB, DSK kits,
P-SPICE and KIEL software etc. Communication laboratory is well-equipped
with six microwave benches, optical communication trainer kits, Digital
& Analog communication trainer kits, Digital storage oscilloscope,
Spectrum Analyzer (1GHz) etc.
The ECE department conducted various workshops in different technical
fields like VLSI, Embedded Systems, DSP, Nanotechnology, etc. The
department focuses on staff development by organizing lab orientation
courses during inter semester breaks and also by sending the faculty to
various workshops conducted by other colleges.
The college follows the regulations and syllabi of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Kakinada.
